MFA GERMAN DIPLOMACY
On 13 January 2025 , The German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock participated in a diplomatic international conference in Riyah, Saudi Arabia alongside other counterparts for a key peaceful Syria and build a future for the country after the fall and exile of Bassad Assad regime .
The Minister , alongside other foreign ministers from many countries in the region , from Europe an the USA , as well as European Union, United Nations discussed on how they can support Syria on it way forward following the overthrow of Assad’s dictatorship.
“ now is a crucial moment for a secure, peaceful and stable future for the country”.
What is important is that the crimes of the Assad regime are processed and punished. Because otherwise the deep wounds in society cannot heal.
The sanctions against the criminals of Assad regime must stay. But the civilian population must now feel relief quickly.
That’s what we want to approach: for example, children can do their homework again without permanent power outages, support is needed for the energy sector and the infrastructure of the country.
The many years of Assad dictatorship have wiped out the country. Many Syrians continue to depend on humanitarian aid. We will continue to support here as well, for example with 50 million euros for food, medical care and emergency shelters.
Whether at the working session or the confidential conversations on the sidelines: all of this contributes to making life safe for Syrians in their country in the future. And a stable Syria also contributes to our security in Germany and Europe.
