Russia -ASEAN Diplomacy
On January 27, Russian Foreign Minister S.V. Lavrov held a traditional meeting with ambassadors of the member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) accredited in Moscow.
A substantive discussion was held on the implementation of decisions by the leaders of our country and the ASEAN “ten” on the development of the Russia-ASEAN strategic partnership, as well as the preparation of a new program document for the medium term. The main emphasis was placed on measures to promote practical cooperation, including with the participation of the ASEAN Moscow Committee. Steps were outlined to diversify cooperation in the areas of economics, energy, science and high technology, digital transformation, and expansion of business and youth contacts.
The discussion of current global and regional issues confirmed the closeness of the approaches of our country and the Association to the formation of a sustainable security architecture in the Asia-Pacific region based on the principles of respect for international law, equality and openness. Particular attention was paid to the topic of deepening integration in the Eurasian space, building up ASEAN ties with the EAEU and the SCO.
